Jennifer Silverman for a reading and discussion about ways to support families in social justice movements and communities. Let's build an all-ages, all-inclusive revolution that leaves no one behind!

Vikki Law is a writer, photographer, and mother. She is the author of Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women, which won the 2009 PASS (Prevention for a Safer Society) Award and the zine Tenacious: Art & Writings from Women in Prison.

Traci Picard is a practicing herbalist with an apothecary of handmade medicines. She grows and forages plants for my community and teaches classes about plant identification and herbs. She writes about plants, foraging, holistic health care and life and maintains a blog of photos and thoughts at fellowworkersfarm.wordpress.com while homeschooling her 3 children. She believes a sense of humor just may save the world.
 
Jennifer Silverman is a NYC-based mama of two sons and an unrepentant coffee addict. She is a coeditor of My Baby Rides the Short Bus (PM Press, 2009), a contributor to Moms Gone Mad, and has had essays and articles published in HipMama magazine, Newsday, off our backs, and many regional newspapers and parenting magazines. Jennifer has also spoken about raising her son with autism, intergenerational movement building, and/or community organized childcare at conferences including the Left Forum, National Conference on Organized Resistance, Mama Gathering, and several bookfairs, and is looking forward to the day when there is less talk and more action on these issues.

Don't Leave Your Friends Behind is a book geared towards the non-parent radical community on ways to be an ally to the parent(s) in their midst.

Over the past five years, we have been collecting stories, how-to lists and words of advice on how to support caretakers and children in the radical and activist community for the zine series Don’t Leave Your Friends Behind. Now we are taking those experiences--plus more-- and turning them into a book!

Let's make a better world WITHOUT leaving out the mamas, papas, partners, child-care providers & children!

We're looking for tips, suggestions, and essays from activists, organizers, allies and radical parents. We want to know how you support children and their caretakers in your collectives, organizations or communities. Send us your stories, fliers, photos and experiences. Tell us what works, what doesn’t and your reflections on how to make it better for next time.

Parents and Youth: What can those around you do to support you and your family? Send us your list of suggestions!

Family, Friends, and Allies: What are your experiences and concrete tips for supporting parents and children?

We are especially interested in submissions that also consider intersections such as race, class, gender, single parenthood, immigration, disability, and/or mental health issues.

Word limit is from one sentence suggestions to 5.000 word essays.

About the Editors:

Vikki Law is a writer, photographer, prison abolitionist and mother of color. She is also the editor of the zine Tenacious: Art & Writings by Women in Prison and the author of Resistance Behind Bars: The Struggles of Incarcerated Women (PM Press 2009).

China Martens raised her daughter as a single mother on welfare and working poor while continuing to put out The Future Generation, the longest-running parenting zine in the history of the Western world. Her daughter is now grown and her zine has been anthologized into the book The Future Generation: The Zine-book for Subculture Parents, Kids, Friends and Others (Atomic Book Company 2007).
